I was born on 19/04/83 in Empangeni on the KwaZulu Natal North coast to Mother Bambi Edwina May Barber and Father Mark Alexander Lewin. I was brought up in Durban and haven’t left, I love it here. I played almost all sports through school but only started paddling a K1 at 15 years and then progressed to Surfski racing at 18 when I left school. I currently race as a semi pro athlete and compete in events all over the world. I try get to as many international surfski races I can afford.

I mostly live a life of passion for paddling and the sea. This blog aims to share my story through words, pictures and video that take you the viewer into my life as a paddler. Join me on an adventure. Hope you enjoy!

Kzn Lifesaving Champs 2014 – 1st Single Ski and Ski Relay

Written by Barry Lewin on . Posted in Racing

I dont take lifesaving very seriously but still love the thrill of the short surf style racing. Last min I picked up a very cool Fenn LS sent from East London for me to use on the weekend. With the new ship in hand we were of down the south coast to Winkle and were met with some solid well.

The organisers did really well to get some cans in and get the racing off. It wasn’t small and I certainly had a lot of fun in the big surf. I got my ass handed to me twice over the weekend in the board and mixed doubles races but got it right in the single ski and ski relay for to KZN titles.

Check out some awesome shots from Graham Topfoto. www.topphoto.net

My club at Marine did a great job through the champs and came away with the event win. I was lucky enough to go up and get the trophy. Just a couple weeks to SA Champs now!
